Full Face Motorcycle
Helmet

Carbon Fibre Shell · ECE Approved · Dual Visor · Double D-Ring · Graphic Design · Cotton Lining · L–XXXL

The FF901 Carbon shares the FF901 model number with the ABS Solid version but diverges on three key points: the shell is woven carbon fibre rather than injection-moulded ABS, the chin strap uses a double D-ring rather than a back closure, and the design is graphic rather than solid. No 180° backflip chin bar; no Pinlock insert listed. Sizes cover L to XXXL only — no M, no 4XL. ECE approved, one-year warranty, 40×30×31cm package at 3.5kg gross.

Carbon Fibre Shell — How It Differs from ABS and KPA
The FF901 Carbon uses woven carbon fibre — continuous filaments of carbon laid in an alternating diagonal weave, bonded with epoxy resin. The result is a shell with a higher stiffness-to-weight ratio than ABS and a different failure mode: carbon fibre shells can delaminate at the fibre-resin interface under impact rather than cracking as ABS does. Delamination may be invisible at the surface — a carbon shell that has sustained a significant impact must be treated as compromised and replaced. The woven surface pattern is visible on the exterior, which is the primary aesthetic distinguishing feature from both the ABS Solid and the KPA FF910.
🎨
Graphic Design — What It Means for the Shell
The graphic design on a carbon fibre helmet is applied over the weave — typically a clear-coat layer with printed graphics beneath it, laid over the carbon surface. The clear coat protects the graphics but adds marginal weight. Inspect the clear coat at the crown and chin bar annually — UV degradation of the clear coat causes yellowing or hazing that dulls the graphic pattern before the shell itself is affected. Use UV-protective helmet polish on the exterior to extend the clear coat's service life. Do not use abrasive compound — it removes the clear coat rather than restoring it.
👁️
Dual Visor — No Pinlock Listed
The FF901 Carbon uses the same dual-lens configuration as the FF901 Solid (clear outer + internal tinted visor), but unlike the Solid version, no Pinlock anti-fog insert is listed in the specification. This means the outer clear lens may not have the two Pinlock mounting pins required for the insert — or the product may ship without the insert even if the pins are present. Confirm with the seller whether this version accepts a Pinlock insert. Without it, cold-weather fogging at the inner face of the outer clear lens is possible. The FF901 Solid's Pinlock Max insert is the recommended solution if the mounting pins are confirmed.
🔗
Double D-Ring vs Back Closure
The FF901 Carbon uses double D-ring retention — the mechanical threading system where retention force increases under crash deceleration load rather than releasing. This is the same system as the FF910. The FF901 Solid uses a back closure dial, which adjusts fit from the crown but uses a buckle at the chin strap that is faster to operate. The D-ring requires two hands and practice to thread quickly; the back closure allows gloved one-hand operation. Choose the D-ring if retention security under crash conditions is the priority; choose the back closure (Solid) if daily quick-on convenience matters more.
📐
L–XXXL Only — No M or 4XL
The FF901 Carbon is only available in L (59–60cm) through XXXL (65–66cm) — four sizes. Riders below 59cm cannot be fitted; riders above 66cm must consider the FF910 ADVANT2 (up to 4XL, 62–63cm in the FF910's sizing). Within the available range, the D-ring provides no circumference adjustment at the shell level — unlike the back closure in the Solid which adjusts the interior. Measure precisely before ordering; the D-ring's fit depends entirely on the shell size matching the skull, not on interior adjustment.
🏅
ECE Approved — Single Certification
The FF901 Carbon carries ECE certification only — not the DOT + ECE + 3C triple certification of the FF910. In markets where ECE is the legal minimum (most of Europe and many other jurisdictions), this is sufficient. In markets where DOT is required or preferred (US), the ECE-only certification does not satisfy DOT requirements as they are distinct standards. For Australian riders, confirm which certification is recognised in your state — ECE R22.05 and R22.06 have different acceptance status in different jurisdictions. As with all ECE certifications, confirm the revision (R22.05 or R22.06) with the seller.
Key Highlights
No. 1
Carbon Fibre Delamination — Why It's Different From ABS Cracking
ABS cracks along fracture lines under impact — visible as surface marks. Carbon fibre delamination occurs between the fibre layers and the epoxy resin matrix — the fibres separate from the resin internally while the outer surface remains smooth and the graphic clear coat appears intact. A carbon shell that has delaminated from a significant impact may show no external evidence whatsoever. This makes post-crash inspection more difficult than for ABS: with ABS, a surface check under bright light catches most significant damage; with carbon, the absence of surface evidence does not confirm structural integrity. Replace after any crash at riding speed regardless of appearance.
No. 2
Confirm Pinlock Compatibility Before Winter Purchase
The FF901 Solid (ABS) ships with a Pinlock Max anti-fog insert as standard; the FF901 Carbon does not list one. If both models are under consideration and cold-weather riding is frequent, this is a decision-relevant difference. Before purchasing the Carbon, ask the seller two questions: does the outer clear lens have Pinlock mounting pins, and does the product ship with a Pinlock insert. If pins are present but no insert is included, a separately purchased Pinlock insert resolves this. If pins are absent, the lens cannot accept a Pinlock insert and anti-fog spray is the only alternative.
No. 3
D-Ring Threading Check — Every Ride
The double D-ring has no buckle mechanism — it cannot be checked by a click or by pulling the buckle tab. The only check is visual: confirm the strap is threaded through both rings from below and folded back under the retaining tab. A strap that has been threaded through one ring only, or folded back over rather than under the retaining tab, will not provide the retention force the D-ring system is designed to deliver. Two-finger gap check: two fingers between the strap underside and the chin, no more. New D-ring users should practice the threading sequence at home before relying on it at a departure point while wearing gloves.
No. 4
No Interior Fit Adjustment — Shell Size Is Everything
The FF901 Solid's back closure allows the interior to contract from the crown, providing adjustment within the shell's size band — useful for riders at the boundary between two sizes. The FF901 Carbon's double D-ring provides no such adjustment. The shell must fit the skull correctly at purchase. If the carbon shell is slightly large — any perceptible rocking when the helmet is gripped and moved — it is the wrong size. There is no mechanism to compensate. Measure your head circumference at the widest skull point three times, use the largest reading, and choose the shell that positions you at the middle of that size band, not the upper boundary.
No. 5
Carbon Shell — UV and Clear Coat Maintenance
Carbon fibre shells with graphic designs use a clear coat over the printed layer to protect the graphics and the carbon weave beneath. UV degradation of the clear coat begins as yellowing at the crown (highest UV exposure zone) and progresses outward. Applying a UV-protective helmet wax or polish every 3–4 months slows this progression significantly. A degraded clear coat cannot be restored by polishing — once yellowing is visible, the affected area's clear coat must be professionally stripped and re-applied, or the shell replaced. Avoid parking the helmet in direct sunlight for extended periods between rides.
No. 6
1-Year Warranty — Same as FF901 Solid
Both FF901 versions carry a 1-year warranty covering manufacturing defects. For the carbon shell specifically, a manufacturing defect would include dry resin areas (sections where the epoxy did not fully saturate the carbon fibre mat), visible voids or bubbles in the shell structure, and failure of the graphic clear coat adhesion within the warranty period. Normal wear, UV degradation, crash damage, and visor scratching are not covered. The D-ring assembly and visor pivot mechanism are the components most likely to be covered by warranty if they fail prematurely from manufacturing defect rather than use.
Construction Zone Detail
01
Carbon Shell — Impact Assessment
After any impact, press firmly across the shell surface at the crown, forehead, and chin bar — not just visually inspect it. Delaminated carbon feels different from intact carbon under pressure: a delaminated zone may flex or produce a hollow sound when tapped, while intact carbon is rigid. Neither of these tests is conclusive — they are indicators only. Any significant impact at riding speed or a drop from handlebar height warrants replacement regardless of these tests. The one-year warranty covers manufacturing defects but not crash damage; the post-crash replacement decision is independent of warranty status.
02
Clear Coat — Annual Condition Check
Run fingers across the clear coat surface at the crown in direct bright light annually. Early UV degradation reads as a slightly tacky or matt feel compared to the original gloss — the clear coat is losing its surface crosslinking before visible yellowing appears. At this stage, a UV-protective polish applied immediately can extend the clear coat's remaining service life. Once yellowing is visible, the clear coat has degraded past the point where surface treatment can reverse it. The graphic layer beneath the clear coat is not UV-resistant independently — without the clear coat, the graphic degrades rapidly and the carbon weave becomes exposed to weather.
03
D-Ring Retaining Tab — Wear Point
The retaining tab or snap that holds the folded strap end after D-ring threading is the highest-wear point in the retention system — the strap passes under it every time the helmet is put on and removed. Over 2–3 years of daily use, the retaining tab can deform or loosen, allowing the strap tail to work free during the ride and present a loose end near the road. Inspect the retaining tab annually: fold the strap back under it and confirm it holds the strap flat with no movement. A tab that allows the strap end to move or release without deliberate force has fatigued and should be replaced before the next ride.
04
Visor Pivot and Dual-Lens Gasket
The dual-lens configuration uses an outer clear lens at the pivot and an inner tinted visor on a separate lever. Both operate independently; neither should affect the other's movement. If the outer clear lens pivot stiffens or loosens asymmetrically (left opens more freely than right), the pivot screws have different tensions — correct to equal, moderate resistance on both sides. The perimeter gasket at the outer lens seal hardens with age and UV exposure; inspect annually by pressing the gasket at the chin bar corners and crown where it turns most sharply. Replace sections with visible flattening before cold-weather riding.
05
Cotton Lining — Compression Over Time
The carbon shell has no back closure — the cotton lining is the primary comfort and fit interface between the EPS and the skull. As the cotton compresses from accumulated use, the effective internal diameter increases marginally, reducing the snug contact with the skull that the correctly fitted shell should provide. If the helmet that fitted correctly at purchase begins to feel looser than at initial break-in, the lining has compressed and is no longer compensating for the fit geometry. If the lining is removable, replace it with a new one of the same thickness; if not, consult the seller about replacement liner options for the FF901 Carbon.
06
Storage — Carbon and Temperature
Carbon fibre's epoxy resin matrix is affected by sustained high-temperature storage — temperatures above 60°C (encountered in a parked vehicle in direct sun) can soften the resin slightly over extended periods, marginally reducing the shell's rigidity. This is a storage concern rather than a riding concern — ambient road temperatures do not approach this threshold. Do not store the FF901 Carbon in a vehicle boot or on a parcel shelf in direct summer sun for extended periods. A helmet bag and indoor or shaded storage preserves both the epoxy matrix integrity and the graphic clear coat UV resistance simultaneously.

  • Carbon delamination is invisible — replace after any crash regardless of appearance: ABS shows surface cracks; carbon fibre may show nothing. A significant impact can separate fibre layers from the epoxy matrix internally while the graphic surface looks undamaged. Tap the crown and forehead — a hollow sound or unexpected flex compared to the rest of the shell is a delamination indicator. When in doubt, replace before riding again. The one-year warranty covers manufacturing defects only; crash-related damage is not covered.
  • Confirm Pinlock compatibility before cold riding — the Solid version has it, this one may not: The FF901 Solid ships with Pinlock Max. The FF901 Carbon does not list a Pinlock insert. Ask the seller whether the outer lens has mounting pins before purchasing for winter use. If pins are present, a separately purchased Pinlock insert resolves the anti-fog gap. If absent, apply anti-fog spray to the inner face of the outer clear lens before cold rides.
  • No interior fit adjustment — measure precisely, size to the middle of the band: The D-ring provides no shell-level fit adjustment (unlike the back closure in the Solid). The shell must fit the skull at purchase. Measure above the eyebrows, over the ears, and around the occipital protrusion three times; use the largest reading. Choose the size where your measurement falls in the middle of the band — not at the upper boundary where the shell will feel loose as the cotton lining compresses with use.
  • UV-protective polish every 3–4 months — store away from direct sun: The graphic clear coat at the crown degrades under UV before any other surface. Apply UV-protective helmet wax or polish quarterly; store the helmet indoors or in a bag rather than in a sun-exposed vehicle boot. Once yellowing is visible the clear coat cannot be restored by polishing — protecting it before visible degradation begins is the only effective approach.
Size Guide

Measure head circumference above the eyebrows, over the ears, and around the occipital protrusion at the rear. Take three measurements, use the largest. No back closure means no shell-level adjustment — size to the middle of the band, not the upper boundary. No M or 4XL available.

Size Head Circumference (cm)
L 59 – 60
XL 61 – 62
XXL 63 – 64
XXXL 65 – 66

* Four sizes only — L through XXXL. No M (below 59cm) and no 4XL (above 66cm). For 59cm or below, the FF901 Solid (ABS) in M is the alternative. For 67cm or above, the FF910 ADVANT2 in 4XL is the option.
