SOMAN SM965
Panoramic Double Visor
Flip-Up Helmet

Panoramic Double Visor · Flip-Up Modular · PC Scratch-Resistant Lens · Adjustable Vents · Windproof · Removable Liner

The SM965 combines a full-face ABS shell with a panoramic outer PC visor, an independent internal sun visor, and flip-up chin bar — giving riders full-face protection when closed and open-face convenience at stops, with no lens swap required when light conditions change. Adjustable top vents, windproof construction, a sweat-absorbing removable liner, and 3C certification complete the all-season package across sizes M to 2XL.

Shell & Feature Performance
🪖
ABS Shell
The ABS outer shell's role is load distribution — it spreads impact force laterally across the shell surface before transferring it to the EPS liner beneath. ABS retains this spreading function across a wide temperature range, which is why it suits all-season use. A cracked shell, even a hairline crack invisible in normal light, can no longer distribute force evenly and must be replaced before further riding.
👁️
Panoramic PC Outer Visor
Polycarbonate construction gives the outer visor high impact resistance against road debris at speed — PC deflects rather than shatters, unlike glass or acrylic alternatives. The panoramic field of view extends the vertical and lateral vision aperture beyond standard visor geometry, reducing the need to tilt the head to see into corners or check mirrors at low-speed junctions. Scratch-resistant surface treatment is applied to protect the optical surface during normal cleaning.
🌤️
Independent Internal Sun Visor
The tinted drop-down sun visor is housed inside the shell crown and operates via a dedicated lever independent of the outer visor position — riders can open or close it without touching the clear outer visor's seal. This matters most in variable conditions: bright open road, shadowed tree-lines, tunnels, and late-afternoon sun can alternate within minutes on a touring route; a lever-accessible sun visor allows reactive adjustment rather than planned stops.
💨
Adjustable Top Ventilation
Top vents can be opened or closed to regulate airflow through the crown area. In combination with a passive lower exhaust path, open top vents create a through-flow that extracts hot, humid air accumulating at the crown during effort. In cold or wet conditions, closing the top vents reduces wind ingress and heat loss without requiring the flip-up chin bar to be opened for airflow adjustment.
🌬️
Windproof Construction
The flip-up chin bar and visor perimeter seals are the two primary routes for wind ingress on a modular helmet. Windproof construction at these junctions — using compression seals and tight-fitting closures — prevents cold air channelling into the interior at highway speed. This is distinct from ventilation: ventilation is controlled airflow through open vents; windproof sealing prevents uncontrolled ingress through closed surfaces.
🧺
Removable Sweat-Absorbing Liner
The interior liner detaches from the shell for machine washing — hygiene maintenance is critical on helmets used daily, as accumulated sweat and skin oils degrade liner fabric, cause odour, and change the effective internal diameter of the helmet over time. A compressed or soiled liner also alters the contact pressure between the shell's EPS and the rider's skull, which affects both comfort and impact energy transfer in the event of a crash.
Key Highlights
No. 1
Flip-Up vs Open-Face — When to Use Each Mode
The SM965 is a full-face helmet in closed mode — the chin bar provides lower face protection that an open-face helmet cannot. In open (flipped) mode it functions like an open-face helmet: suitable for low-speed urban riding, fuelling stops, and toll payments where brief communication is needed. Ride at highway speed with the chin bar fully locked in the closed position — wind load on an unlocked chin bar can cause it to open during riding.
No. 2
Panoramic Visor — What "Panoramic" Means
A panoramic visor has a taller and wider aperture than a standard full-face visor — the lower edge extends closer to the chin bar and the lateral edges wrap further around the temple. This expands the rider's direct visual field without requiring head movement, which reduces neck fatigue on long touring routes and improves peripheral awareness at urban junctions without turning the head fully.
No. 3
3C Certification Scope
3C (China Compulsory Certification) requires independent third-party laboratory testing of impact attenuation, shell penetration resistance, retention system strength, and visor optical properties before the helmet can be legally sold. It is not a self-declared standard — the certification mark confirms a test report from an accredited body exists for this specific model. Riders purchasing for markets that recognise 3C should confirm whether local road regulations accept it as an equivalent to regional standards such as ECE or DOT.
No. 4
Scratch-Resistant PC vs Untreated Visor
Untreated polycarbonate scratches from cleaning cloth fibres alone — fine swirl marks accumulate with every wipe, progressively creating a haze that scatters light and causes glare when riding toward the sun or oncoming headlights at night. Scratch-resistant surface treatment significantly extends the period before optical degradation becomes hazardous. Use clean microfibre and visor-specific fluid only; dry-wiping a PC visor, even gently, removes the treatment faster than wet cleaning.
No. 5
Liner Washing — Frequency and Method
For daily commuters, washing the liner every 2–4 weeks prevents odour compounds from bonding permanently to the fabric. Remove the liner fully before washing — machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with no fabric softener (softener coats fibres and reduces sweat-wicking performance). Air dry only; heat from a tumble dryer degrades the foam backing and changes the liner's dimensional accuracy, which alters effective internal helmet fit after reinstallation.
No. 6
Size Range Tops Out at 2XL (63–64cm)
The SM965 is available in M through 2XL — the range tops out at 63–64cm. Riders with head circumferences above 64cm will need to consider a different model. If your measurement is at or near 64cm, measure three times at the widest skull point and use the largest reading before ordering the 2XL, as there is no larger size available in this model to size up to.
Construction Zone Detail
01
Outer ABS Shell + EPS Liner
The ABS shell and EPS liner work as a two-stage system — the shell spreads load across its surface, the EPS absorbs the distributed energy through irreversible cellular crush. Neither layer substitutes for the other. An intact shell over a previously impacted EPS provides no protection; an EPS with no hard outer shell receives concentrated rather than distributed force at impact.
02
Chin Bar Locking Mechanism
The flip-up chin bar locks in both the fully closed and fully open positions — partial-position locking is not supported. Before every ride, confirm the chin bar is in the fully closed and locked position by applying upward pressure on the chin guard. A bar that moves upward under hand pressure is not fully latched and must be re-engaged before riding.
03
Outer PC Visor Seal
The outer visor seats against a perimeter rubber gasket at the chin bar and shell crown. This seal is the primary barrier against wind noise and cold-air ingress at the visor edges. If the seal is deformed, compressed unevenly, or missing sections, wind noise increases noticeably and air enters the interior at the gap. Inspect the seal periodically and replace it if hardening or deformation is visible.
04
Internal Sun Visor Storage Position
When retracted, the internal sun visor sits in a housing inside the shell crown above the rider's forehead — it does not affect the outer visor aperture or seal in either position. Confirm it is fully retracted before riding in low-light or night conditions; partial deployment creates a tinted horizontal band across the lower field of view that can mask road obstacles in poor visibility.
05
Buckle Retention System
The buckle chin strap must be set to two-finger gap tolerance — two fingers between the strap underside and the chin, no more, no less. A strap set looser than two fingers allows the helmet to rotate forward under frontal impact, lifting the shell away from the crown at the moment of maximum energy transfer. Check the buckle setting after adjusting for gloves or after any period of non-use where strap memory may have shifted.
06
Adjustable Top Vent Operation
The top vent slider or rocker switch moves between open and closed positions — confirm the vent is in the intended state before riding rather than leaving it at a midpoint that provides neither full ventilation nor full wind blocking. In rain, close the top vent to prevent water entry into the crown area, which can pool around the EPS liner and accelerate liner deterioration over time.

  • This model stops at 2XL (63–64cm) — no larger size exists: If your head circumference is at or near the top of the 2XL range, measure three times and use the largest result. There is no 3XL available in the SM965; riders at the boundary with no room to size up should confirm fit with the seller or consider a model with a larger maximum size.
  • New helmet fit should feel snug — not comfortable: A correctly sized helmet applies firm, even pressure around the skull with no gaps between the liner and the head. Pressure points indicate the wrong head shape for this helmet; even all-round pressure that feels slightly tight is normal and indicates the correct size. The liner compresses and conforms over the first 15–20 riding hours.
  • Confirm the chin bar is fully locked before every ride: Apply upward hand pressure on the chin guard after closing — if the bar moves, it is not latched. The windproof seal at the chin bar junction also only functions correctly when the bar is fully closed; a partially open bar creates a direct cold-air channel into the lower interior at speed.
  • Replace after any crash — EPS damage is internal and invisible: The ABS shell may show no cracking after a significant impact while the EPS liner cells beneath have permanently deformed. Once EPS has crushed at a zone, that zone provides no further energy absorption in a subsequent impact. The 3C certification applies to a new, unimpacted helmet — it does not apply to the same helmet after impact.
