- No CE standard stated — ESA ankle protection is proprietary only: The L60686 includes an ESA flexible ankle protector but does not state any CE certification (no EN 13634 boot standard, no EN 1621-1 limb protector rating). ESA is a proprietary protection material brand. Riders whose environment, employer, or insurance requires CE-certified footwear should confirm the protection standard with the seller before ordering.
- Perforated leather + sandwich mesh — ventilation trade-off: The first-layer cowhide is perforated and combined with sandwich mesh nylon panels to allow physical airflow through the upper at riding speed — more effective cooling than solid leather alone. The trade-off is reduced abrasion resistance at the mesh zones compared to a solid leather boot. This is a summer-priority boot; it is not suited to cold or wet conditions and offers reduced slide protection at the ventilation panels versus a full-leather upper.
- Rubber + EVA outsole — what each layer does: The outsole combines two materials: rubber on the contact surface for grip and wear resistance, and EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) in the midsole for cushioning and shock absorption. Rubber grips footpegs and road surfaces and resists wear; EVA compresses under impact to absorb energy. EVA does permanently compress over time — inspect the midsole thickness annually and replace the boots when cushioning noticeably decreases, typically after 18–24 months of regular daily use.
- Multi-zone protection — toe, heel, and ankle covered: The L60686 provides hard protection at three points: a hardened toe cap resists compression from dropped objects and frontal impacts; a built-in heel counter resists rearward compression and stabilises the ankle on uneven terrain; and the ESA ankle protector covers the lateral malleolus. The sole is hardened to resist side pressure during low-speed manoeuvres such as reversing. No back-of-ankle or shin protection is provided — this is an ankle boot, not a mid-calf design.
- Alpha size column — EUR 40 and EUR 45/46 share labels: The size chart includes an Alpha Size column where EUR 40 and EUR 41 both map to "XL", and EUR 45 and EUR 46 both map to "5XL". These alpha labels are unreliable — use your foot length in centimetres matched directly to the Foot Length column instead. Measure both feet standing in riding socks; use the larger measurement. If between rows, choose the larger EUR size.
