HIPORA Waterproof · Kevlar Palm · 3M Thinsulate · EVA Biomimetic · Exoskeleton · Touchscreen · Hook & Loop

Five distinct protection and comfort systems in a single cowhide glove: HIPORA waterproof bag construction with waterproof cuffs, DuPont Kevlar abrasion reinforcement at the palm, 3M Thinsulate thermal lining, EVA biomimetic impact padding, and a rigid exoskeleton shell at the knuckle and finger-back zones. Touchscreen-compatible fingertips and a hook-and-loop wrist strap complete the winter riding package across sizes S to 2XL.

Five Material Systems — What Each One Does
DuPont Kevlar
Kevlar para-aramid fibre is woven into the palm panel. At equivalent thickness, Kevlar provides abrasion resistance significantly beyond cowhide alone — relevant at the palm's lever-contact zone where a slide would expose this surface to road abrasion first. Kevlar does not stretch, so it is used specifically at the palm where dimensional stability under friction matters most.
3M Thinsulate
3M Thinsulate New Cheryl Warm Velvet uses fine microfibre insulation — fibres thinner than a human hair trap more air per gram than conventional insulation materials, providing warmth at lower bulk. Unlike fleece or wool linings, Thinsulate retains insulation performance when slightly damp, which matters in wet winter riding conditions where condensation builds inside a waterproof shell.
EVA Biomimetic
EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) biomimetic padding distributes impact force across a wider surface area before transmitting it to the hand — the "biomimetic" structure mimics the multi-layer cellular geometry found in natural impact-absorbing tissues. EVA absorbs energy through controlled deformation; inspect padding zones after any significant impact for permanent compression that would indicate reduced protection.
Exoskeleton
A rigid polymer exoskeleton shell covers the knuckle line and proximal finger backs — the surfaces that contact road first in a forward outstretched fall. The hard shell deflects impact and allows the hand to slide rather than grip the road surface, reducing the rotational torque on finger joints that causes ligament injuries. The exoskeleton sits over the EVA padding; both systems work in sequence rather than independently.
HIPORA Waterproof
HIPORA is a microporous waterproof membrane laminated inside the glove — the bag construction means the membrane wraps the entire hand interior as a sealed insert rather than being applied to the outer surface only. Waterproof cuffs extend the seal to the wrist interface. The microporous structure allows water vapour (sweat) to pass outward while blocking liquid water ingress — maintaining the breathable-waterproof balance specific to microporous technology.
Feature Performance
🧤
Cowhide Leather Outer
Cowhide is heavier and stiffer than goatskin at equivalent thickness, providing greater structural rigidity at the glove body and better wind resistance at the hand's dorsal surface. The greater fibre density also extends the surface's life under repeated abrasion from handlebar hardware, levers, and tank contact. Cowhide requires conditioning every 4–6 weeks in regular winter use — cold and wet conditions accelerate fibre drying more than dry summer use.
🌡️
Winter Season Rating
The combination of HIPORA waterproof bag, 3M Thinsulate lining, and windproof cowhide shell makes these gloves effective from approximately 0°C to 15°C. Below 0°C, an additional inner thermal glove liner may be needed. Above 15°C the Thinsulate insulation creates excess hand warmth — for warmer conditions these gloves are over-specified; the spring and autumn shoulder seasons are the practical upper boundary.
📱
Touchscreen Fingertips
Conductive material at the index and thumb fingertips allows capacitive screen interaction without removing the gloves. In winter gloves with a Thinsulate lining, the conductive thread must bridge the additional liner thickness between the fingertip skin and the outer tip — confirm responsiveness on your specific devices before first use, as screen sensitivity varies by device and touch pressure required.
🪝
Hook & Loop Wrist Strap
The hook-and-loop closure allows the cuff to be set to any wrist circumference within its adjustment range — accommodating different wrist sizes and jacket sleeve thicknesses without requiring size-specific wrist options. Correct closure pressure: snug enough that the glove cannot be pulled backward off the wrist under handlebar braking load, loose enough to allow full wrist flexion to 90° without constriction.
💪
Five-System Protection Hierarchy
Each protection system operates at a different impact magnitude. The exoskeleton deflects and initiates the slide. The EVA absorbs the deceleration energy through cellular deformation. The Kevlar palm resists surface abrasion throughout the slide. The HIPORA maintains waterproofing integrity during and after the event. This sequential hierarchy means all five systems must be intact to deliver the full protection stack — inspect each zone after any significant impact.
📏
Palm Width Sizing — S to 2XL
Sizing is based solely on palm width at the widest point excluding the thumb. Each size covers a 1cm width range (S: 7–8cm through 2XL: 11–12cm). The Thinsulate lining adds internal bulk — if your palm width falls at the upper boundary of a size, choose up to ensure the lining does not compress the fingers excessively, which would reduce both warmth and dexterity at the lever.
Key Highlights
No. 1
HIPORA Bag vs Surface Membrane
Most waterproof gloves apply a membrane to the outer material's inner surface. A "bag" construction wraps the entire hand in a separate sealed membrane insert — if the outer leather is cut or perforated in a crash, the HIPORA bag beneath continues to function as a waterproof barrier. A surface-applied membrane in the same scenario would fail at the cut location. The bag construction also allows the outer leather to be replaced or repaired without compromising the waterproof system.
No. 2
Exoskeleton + EVA in Sequence
The exoskeleton and EVA are not alternatives — they are sequential. The exoskeleton is a rigid deflector that initiates a slide and prevents the hand from gripping the road. The EVA beneath absorbs the deceleration energy that the exoskeleton transmits to the hand during the impact event. Removing or damaging either layer reduces the combined system to half its intended function: a rigid shell without EVA concentrates force; EVA without a hard shell does not initiate the slide.
No. 3
Thinsulate Performs Wet — Fleece Does Not
Standard fleece or cotton thermal linings lose 70–80% of their insulation value when damp — condensation from the hand in a waterproof glove creates exactly this condition during sustained riding. 3M Thinsulate microfibre retains most of its insulation performance when damp because it traps air in the spaces between fibres rather than in the fibres themselves. This means the gloves remain warm inside the HIPORA bag even after extended cold-weather riding at high output.
No. 4
Bank Card Sizing Method
The seller provides a practical sizing crosscheck: a standard bank card is 8.5cm (3.35in) wide. Hold the card across the widest part of your palm (excluding thumb) and assess whether your hand is narrower than, equal to, or wider than the card. Narrower = likely S or M; equal = M boundary; wider = L or above. This works as a quick field check if a ruler is unavailable but measure precisely before ordering — particularly at the M/L boundary where the 1cm range is narrow.
No. 5
Wrist Cuff Waterproof Seal
Waterproof cuffs extend the HIPORA bag's seal to the wrist interface — the gap between glove and jacket sleeve is the primary water ingress point in any waterproof glove design. Confirm the cuff overlaps the jacket sleeve by at least 3–4cm and the hook-and-loop closure seals both the cuff and the jacket fabric behind it. In sustained heavy rain, tucking the glove cuff inside the jacket sleeve provides a secondary seal at this junction.
No. 6
Cowhide Conditioning in Winter Use
Winter riding exposes cowhide to rain, road salt, and temperature cycling — the most aggressive combination for leather fibre degradation. Condition with a cowhide-appropriate conditioner (not silicone-based) every 4 weeks during the riding season. After riding in rain, allow the gloves to dry naturally at room temperature before conditioning — conditioning wet leather closes the pores before remaining moisture has evaporated, trapping water inside the fibre structure.
Construction Zone Detail
01
Cowhide + Kevlar Palm
The palm zone layers cowhide outer over Kevlar reinforcement — cowhide provides the structural body and grip surface while Kevlar adds abrasion resistance specifically at the slide contact zone. The Kevlar layer is not visible externally; inspect the palm for surface wear that exposes a yellow or gold fibrous substrate — this is Kevlar showing through the cowhide surface after the leather has worn, indicating the primary protection layer is still intact.
02
HIPORA Membrane Bag
The HIPORA membrane is factory-sealed as a complete bag before the outer leather is assembled around it. The sealed seams are inside the bag construction; inspect the cuff seal at the wrist interface — this is the zone most likely to experience mechanical stress from repeated wrist flexion. If water ingress occurs inside the glove despite the leather outer being intact, the cuff seal at the HIPORA bag's opening is the most probable failure point.
03
3M Thinsulate Inner Lining
The Thinsulate lining sits between the HIPORA bag and the velvet contact layer against the hand. It is not removable — washing the gloves cold and air-drying preserves the microfibre structure; heat drying flattens the fibres and permanently reduces loft. Store the gloves in an uncompressed state between uses; long-term compression under heavy objects mats the Thinsulate and reduces effective thermal performance before visible wear occurs.
04
EVA Padding Zones
EVA padding is placed at the knuckle area beneath the exoskeleton and at the palm heel — the hypothenar and thenar eminences where grip pressure concentrates. The palm EVA also reduces vibration transmission from the handlebar to the carpal tunnel zone, providing the same benefit as a dedicated vibration-damping palm layer. Inspect both zones after any impact — permanent flattening or cracking at the EVA indicates deformation that reduces subsequent energy absorption.
05
Exoskeleton Shell Coverage
The exoskeleton covers the metacarpal knuckle line and proximal finger backs — the first surface to contact road in an outstretched-arm fall. The shell is bonded to the outer cowhide; if the shell cracks or delaminates from the leather without obvious road contact, UV degradation of the polymer bond is the likely cause. Store gloves away from direct sunlight when not in use — UV exposure at polymer-leather bond lines causes long-term adhesion failure.
06
Touchscreen Fingertip Conductivity
The conductive thread at the index and thumb tips must bridge through the Thinsulate lining and leather outer to complete the capacitive circuit. Thicker linings require more conductive thread density to maintain the same screen sensitivity — if responsiveness degrades over time, the conductive thread at that fingertip may have fatigued from repeated bending. Test responsiveness monthly in winter; if one fingertip stops responding, the thread has likely fractured and the gloves should be replaced if this function is operationally required.

Size Range
S – 2XL
  • Size by palm width only — not finger length: Measure the widest part of the palm excluding the thumb. Each size covers a 1cm range. If at the upper boundary of a size, go up — the Thinsulate lining adds internal bulk that reduces effective fit, and a glove that compresses the fingers reduces both warmth and lever dexterity. A bank card (8.5cm) can be used as a quick field reference if no ruler is available.
  • Overlap the cuff over the jacket sleeve by at least 3–4cm: The HIPORA waterproof cuffs seal the bag at the wrist interface, but an uncovered gap between glove and sleeve allows rain to enter the top of the bag. Confirm the cuff fully overlaps the jacket sleeve in riding position with the arm extended to the bar. In heavy rain, tuck the cuff inside the sleeve for a secondary seal.
  • Condition cowhide monthly during winter use — dry first, then condition: Condition only after the leather has dried to room temperature — conditioning wet leather traps moisture inside the fibre. Use a cowhide-appropriate conditioner without silicone. After any heavy rain exposure, wipe the surface clean, allow to dry naturally at room temperature (not near a heat source), then apply conditioner once fully dry.
  • Inspect EVA and exoskeleton after any fall — both are single-use impact materials: EVA deforms permanently to absorb energy; the exoskeleton can crack internally without visible surface damage. After any crash or direct high-force impact at the knuckle or palm zone, press the EVA padding — it should spring back. Flex the exoskeleton shell gently — crackling indicates internal fracture. Replace the gloves if either system has been compromised before the next ride.
Size Guide

Measure the widest part of the palm excluding the thumb. Each size is a 1cm range — if at the upper boundary, choose the larger size. Sizing is based on palm width only, not finger length. A standard bank card (8.5cm / 3.35in) can be used as a quick reference if a ruler is unavailable.

Measurement S M L XL 2XL
Palm Width (cm) 7–8 8–9 9–10 10–11 11–12
Palm Width (in) 2.76–3.15 3.15–3.54 3.54–3.94 3.94–4.33 4.33–4.72

* If at the upper boundary of a size (e.g. 9cm = upper end of M / lower end of L), choose L — the Thinsulate lining adds internal volume that reduces effective fit at the boundary. Finger length does not affect size selection.
