EiZ EY-03
CE Level 2 Quick-Release
Winter Riding Pants

CE Level 2 EN 1621-1 · Quick-Release Zippers · Oxford Shell · Waterproof · Windproof · Reflective · M–5XL

The EY-03 is EiZ's CE Level 2 certified winter riding trouser — independently tested to EN 1621-1 2012 across high-temperature, normal-temperature, humidity, and low-temperature conditions, rated K.E.S. Type A at Level 2. Quick-release side zippers allow full on/off without boot removal, the Oxford outer shell provides windproof and waterproof performance, and retroreflective strips improve low-light visibility. CE Level 2 knee protectors are included across sizes M to 5XL. At 1.15kg packaged, the pants themselves are considerably lighter.

EU CE Safety Certification

The EY-03's knee protectors have been independently tested to EN 1621-1 2012 — the European standard for motorcycle limb protectors — across four environmental conditions: high temperature, normal temperature, humidity, and low temperature. This multi-condition testing confirms performance is not limited to one climate scenario. The protectors are rated K.E.S. Type A (Knee) at Level 2, which requires maximum transmitted force below 20 kN at the specified test impact energy.

🏅
CE Level 2 — Four-Condition Testing
Most CE certifications test at normal temperature (23°C) only. EN 1621-1 2012's multi-condition requirement — high temperature, normal temperature, humidity, and low temperature — confirms the protector maintains its force-transmission performance across the full winter riding environment. A pad tested only at 23°C may soften or harden at temperature extremes, changing its energy-absorption behaviour at exactly the conditions where the EY-03 is most likely to be used.
Quick-Release Side Zippers
Side zippers on the EY-03 open both outer leg seams for full-width removal — allowing the pants to be pulled on over boots, over work trousers, or over existing thermal base layers without sitting down or removing footwear. This is the primary differentiator from standard riding trousers with ankle-only openings, which require boot removal for on/off. Confirm zip pull accessibility with riding gloves before departure.
🧵
Polyester / Cotton / Oxford Multi-Material
The material blend assigns each component to its most effective zone: Oxford cloth at the outer high-abrasion surfaces (seat, inner thigh, knee panels) provides weave-density abrasion resistance; polyester at structural panels offers UV and moisture resistance without the weight of full Oxford; cotton content at the inner comfort zones maintains breathability and reduces skin irritation during extended wear compared to all-synthetic constructions.
💧
Waterproof + Windproof Oxford
The Oxford outer's tight weave structure is inherently windproof — fibre density prevents air movement through the fabric at riding speeds. Waterproofing is achieved through DWR surface treatment applied to the Oxford outer, causing rain to bead and run off on dry fabric. DWR performance is best on a dry outer surface; if the Oxford becomes saturated from sustained rain, water will penetrate the DWR layer before reaching the inner materials. Re-activation by low-heat tumble drying restores DWR performance after washing.
🔆
Reflective Strips — Low-Light Safety
Retroreflective strips return vehicle headlight beams toward the source — making the rider visible at distances where dark clothing is invisible to approaching drivers. Lower-leg reflective placement benefits from the constant movement of the legs during riding, which increases conspicuity compared to fixed torso panels. Maintain reflective strip integrity by avoiding high-temperature washing that degrades the retroreflective layer's adhesive bond to the Oxford fabric substrate.
📐
Rise Measurements — Front and Back
The EY-03 size chart includes both front rise (waistband to crotch seam, front) and back rise (waistband to crotch seam, rear). Back rise is consistently longer than front rise — at M, 44.5cm vs 30.7cm — because the riding posture rotates the pelvis forward and requires more fabric at the rear to maintain waistband position without pulling down. If you find riding trousers typically pull down at the rear waistband during riding, a higher back-rise measurement is the relevant fit dimension to check.
Key Highlights
No. 1
EN 1621-1 2012 — What the Standard Number Means
EN 1621-1 is the European standard specifically for motorcycle limb protectors (arms and legs). The 2012 date indicates the revision of the standard used for testing — a newer revision than earlier certifications. K.E.S. Type A specifies the protector's form factor: a knee-specific shape covering the patella and surrounding joint area. T+ and T− denote that the protector passed both high-temperature and low-temperature conditioning, not just ambient testing. These details confirm the certification is the complete current standard, not an older or partial certification.
No. 2
Knee Protection Only — No Hip Protectors
The EY-03 package includes CE Level 2 knee protectors only — there are no hip protectors included or specified for this model. Riders who require hip protection should confirm whether the pants have hip pockets that accept aftermarket protectors, or consider a model that includes hip pads in the box. The knee protectors are the certified protection system; the absence of hip pads in the specification is a functional distinction from models such as the LYSCHY LY-2019 and others that include both knee and hip protection.
No. 3
Thigh Column Is a Flat Measurement
The thigh measurement in the size chart (34cm at M through 40cm at 5XL) is a flat measurement — the actual thigh circumference is double this figure. A flat thigh of 34cm at M = 68cm circumference. Riders with larger quadricep development relative to their hip measurement should check the thigh column independently — if the doubled thigh figure is close to or exceeds your actual thigh circumference, choose a larger size based on thigh, not hip or waist, to avoid a tight fit at the upper leg that restricts the knee flex needed for riding posture.
No. 4
Leg Opening and Boot Compatibility
Leg opening runs from 19cm (M) to 25cm (5XL) — these are flat measurements; double for actual circumference (38cm at M, 50cm at 5XL). Standard motorcycle boot shafts typically measure 35–42cm in circumference. At M (38cm effective opening), a boot shaft at the upper end of this range will be a tight fit through the cuff. If you wear wide-shaft adventure or touring boots, confirm your boot shaft circumference against the doubled leg opening figure for your size before ordering.
No. 5
Pants Length Increases Consistently — No Plateau
Unlike some riding trouser size charts where pants length stops increasing at the larger sizes, the EY-03 increases 2cm per size from M (107cm) through 5XL (119cm) — 12cm of total length variation across the full size range. This consistent scaling means tall riders at 5XL are not penalised with a shorter-than-proportional inseam. Measure your inside leg from crotch to floor with boots on and compare against the pants length column — a 2–4cm excess is acceptable; beyond this, cuff bunching above the boot becomes noticeable.
No. 6
Protector Alignment — Patella Coverage in Riding Posture
After fitting, sit on the motorcycle in riding position and confirm the CE Level 2 knee pad is centred over the patella — not riding above it toward the lower thigh or below it toward the upper shin. The EN 1621-1 K.E.S. Type A certification applies to the protector's coverage of the knee joint specifically; impact force that arrives above or below the pad's coverage zone is transmitted directly to the unprotected anatomy regardless of the protection level certified. Adjust waistband height until the pocket aligns correctly before the first ride.
Construction Zone Detail
01
Oxford Outer Abrasion Zones
Oxford cloth's tight basket weave provides abrasion resistance through fibre density — the interlocked warp and weft structure resists surface scuffing without requiring a thick face treatment. The highest-wear zones in daily riding trousers are the inner thigh (saddle contact), the rear seat panel (sustained pressure), and the knee face (footpeg contact during weighting). Inspect these three zones periodically for visible fibre breakdown — early thinning in these areas indicates the Oxford weave is being abraded from sustained contact rather than crash events.
02
DWR Treatment on Oxford Outer
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a chemical surface treatment bonded to the Oxford fibre — it causes water droplets to bead and run off rather than spreading and soaking through. DWR is depleted by washing (surfactants in detergent strip the treatment from the fibre) and by abrasion at high-contact zones. Wash cold on a gentle cycle using a technical-fabric detergent without fabric softener. After washing, tumble dry on low heat for 20 minutes to reactivate the DWR chemistry — heat is required to restore water-beading performance.
03
Quick-Release Zipper Termination Points
The side zipper's top termination — where the slider meets the waistband — is the primary ingress point for cold air entering from the hip zone. Confirm both zipper top-stops are fully closed before riding in cold or wet conditions. At the ankle, the bottom termination should seat flush with the cuff hem; a zipper pull that protrudes below the cuff catches on boot hardware and accelerates the slider's wear at the bottom stop. If the bottom stop loosens with use, have it reinforced before it allows the slider to run off the tape.
04
CE Level 2 Knee Pocket
The knee pocket must hold the EN 1621-1 K.E.S. Type A protector over the patella through the knee's full flex range — from standing to riding crouch — without the pad migrating toward the shin. After installing the protector, flex the knee through its full range while seated and confirm no migration occurs. A protector that shifts downward when the knee flexes is in a pocket whose geometry does not constrain the pad adequately at flex angle; the protector will be positioned below the kneecap during the riding posture where it matters most.
05
Back Rise and Riding Posture Comfort
The back rise of the EY-03 runs from 44.5cm (M) to 47.5cm (5XL) — this is the distance from the rear waistband down to the crotch seam. In the riding posture, the pelvis rotates forward and the rear waistband is pulled downward by the body's extension. A back rise that is too short for the rider's proportions creates persistent waistband pull-down and lower-back exposure even when the waist measurement is correct. If you consistently experience rear waistband pull-down in riding trousers, compare your own back-rise measurement against the chart's column for your hip size.
06
Reflective Strip Maintenance
Retroreflective material is bonded to the Oxford outer via a heat-adhesive or stitched application. High-temperature washing (above 40°C) and tumble drying at high heat degrade the adhesive layer and reduce the retroreflective microprism or glass-bead surface's bonding to the fabric. Wash cold, gentle cycle; air dry or low-heat tumble dry only. If reflective strips begin to lift at their edges, they can be heat-pressed flat before detachment becomes complete — once detached they cannot be reliably re-bonded to the Oxford substrate in the field.

  • CE Level 2 knee only — no hip protectors in this package: The EY-03 includes knee protectors only. If hip protection is a requirement, confirm whether the pants have hip pockets accepting aftermarket pads before purchasing — or consider a model that ships with hip protectors included. The knee certification (EN 1621-1 2012, K.E.S. Type A, Level 2) is complete and multi-condition tested; hip coverage is simply not part of this product's specification.
  • Size to your hip — thigh is a flat measurement, double it to check: The chart's thigh figures (34–40cm) are flat; actual circumference is double. If hip and thigh suggest different sizes, choose the larger. If front rise and back rise figures concern you — particularly if riding trousers typically pull down at the rear — measure your own back rise (sit on a hard chair, measure from waistband to seat) and compare directly against the chart column for your hip size.
  • Wash cold, tumble dry low — restore DWR with the heat cycle: The DWR waterproof treatment on the Oxford outer requires heat to reactivate after washing. Cold wash, gentle cycle, no fabric softener — then 20 minutes on low heat in the tumble dryer. If the outer fabric is wetting out (water spreading rather than beading) after washing and air drying, the missing step is the low-heat dry cycle that re-bonds the DWR to the fibre surface.
  • Confirm knee pad is centred over the patella in riding posture: The EN 1621-1 K.E.S. Type A certification applies to coverage of the knee joint. Sit on the motorcycle and confirm the pad centre aligns with the kneecap — not the lower thigh or upper shin. If the pad sits above the patella in riding posture, the waistband is too high; if below, too low. Adjust waistband height until the pocket centres over the patella, then confirm the fit holds through a full knee flex-extension cycle before riding.
Size Guide

Provide height, weight, waist, and hip measurements when ordering. Size priority: hip for protector pocket alignment; thigh as a secondary check (flat measurement — double for circumference). Front and back rise columns are provided if trouser pull-down is a recurring fit issue. Pants length increases 2cm per size across the full range.
