FreedConn HERO
Helmet Bluetooth
Intercom

1000m Range · BT 5.1 + EDR · 30H Battery · IP67 · Noise Cancellation · SBC Codec · Volume Limit

The HERO is a single-rider helmet intercom that distinguishes itself from the T-MAX S Pro through two key specs: IP67 waterproof rating (total dust protection and 30-minute submersion to 1 metre) and a 30-hour intercom battery from a 1100mAh ternary lithium cell — nearly double the T-MAX S Pro's runtime. At 48g with left-side helmet mounting, SBC codec audio, active noise cancellation, and built-in volume limitation, it suits riders who ride solo or in pairs and prioritise all-weather durability and extended runtime over group mesh.

Feature Performance
🔋
30H Battery — 1100mAh Ternary Lithium
Ternary lithium (NMC) chemistry delivers higher energy density than standard LiPo at the same cell size — the 1100mAh cell produces 4.07Wh, enabling 30 hours of intercom use before recharge. At 5V / 2A input (10W), recharge from flat takes approximately 1.5–2 hours. Unlike standard lithium cells that degrade below 3°C, ternary lithium retains capacity in cold-weather conditions, which matters for winter touring where battery performance matters most.
💧
IP67 Waterproofing
IP67 = total dust ingress prevention (6) and sustained submersion to 1 metre for 30 minutes (7). For helmet-mounted intercom, IP67 covers the full spectrum of riding exposure: rain, road spray, power washing after a muddy ride, and accidental submersion. This is a rated and tested standard — not a "weather-resistant" or "splash-proof" claim. Confirm the charging port cover is seated before any wet exposure; the IP rating applies to the closed housing only.
🎙️
Active Noise Cancellation
The microphone system uses CVC (Clear Voice Capture) or DSP noise filtering to separate speech from wind, engine, and road noise before transmission — the receiving rider hears voice, not background. At highway speed where wind noise inside a full-face helmet reaches 80–95dB, uncancelled microphone audio would be dominated by wind. Noise cancellation operates on the transmitted signal; the rider's own helmet acoustics are a separate variable not affected by the intercom.
🎵
SBC Codec + Music Sharing
SBC (Subband Coding) is the mandatory baseline Bluetooth audio codec — all Bluetooth audio devices must support it. It provides stereo audio up to 328 kbps. Music sharing broadcasts the connected audio source to paired riders simultaneously; intercom voice takes transmission priority and automatically interrupts music when a rider speaks, resuming playback when the channel clears.
🔉
Volume Limitation
Built-in volume limitation caps the maximum output level to protect hearing during extended riding — sustained exposure above 85dB causes cumulative hearing damage, and helmet-mounted speakers at maximum volume in a quiet environment exceed this threshold. Volume limitation does not affect intercom clarity; it prevents the maximum level from being set dangerously high during quiet stops and then retained when returning to highway speed.
⚖️
48g Left-Side Mount
At 48g, the HERO is lighter than the T-MAX S Pro (55.2g) and mounts on the left side of the helmet — the control button side, allowing the dominant right hand to remain on the throttle during operation. Left-side mounting shifts the mass slightly off-centre; on a well-balanced helmet this is imperceptible at speed, but riders sensitive to helmet balance should confirm the fit before long-distance use.
Key Highlights
No. 1
HERO vs T-MAX S Pro — Which to Choose
The HERO and T-MAX S Pro share the same 1000m range and BT 5.1 + EDR base, but serve different riders. The HERO's advantages: IP67 rated (T-MAX S Pro has unspecified water resistance), 30H battery vs 17H, lighter at 48g vs 55.2g, and volume limitation. The T-MAX S Pro's advantages: 4–6 rider group mesh vs pair-based HERO intercom, and music sharing in a group context. Solo and paired riders in wet climates suit the HERO; group tourers suit the T-MAX S Pro.
No. 2
IP67 — What the Numbers Mean
IP67's first digit (6) means the housing is fully sealed against dust — no particle ingress under any conditions. The second digit (7) means the sealed unit survived 30 minutes submerged at 1 metre depth in testing. For motorcycle use the practical ceiling is rain, road spray, and high-pressure washing — all well below the rated submersion depth. The key limitation is the charging port: IP67 applies only to the closed housing, and an open or poorly seated port cover reduces the rating.
No. 3
30H Runtime in Context
At 30 hours of intercom time, the HERO covers approximately four full riding days before requiring a charge. For a touring rider covering 600–800km per day with 8–10 hours of seat time, this means charging every fourth evening rather than every night — a practical advantage when accommodation does not always provide a convenient charging window. The 5V / 2A input charges from any standard USB-C power source.
No. 4
All Helmet Types — Why It Fits All
The HERO fits full-face, flip-up, half-face, open-face, and dual-sport helmets because the mounting system uses a Velcro and clamp-bracket approach rather than a shell-specific clip. The speakers fit into any helmet with ear cavities deep enough to accept a flat speaker — most helmets from the last decade have these recesses. Half-face and open-face helmets require a boom microphone rather than a flat chin-bar mic; confirm which microphone type is included or available as an accessory.
No. 5
2.402–2.480 GHz Frequency Range
The HERO operates across the full 2.4GHz ISM band (channels 1–79), using adaptive frequency hopping to shift away from occupied channels. In practice this means the unit continuously scans for the clearest channel within the 2.402–2.480GHz range and reassigns automatically — reducing interference from congested Wi-Fi channels or other Bluetooth devices in the vicinity without any rider input required.
No. 6
Microphone Distance — Why It Matters
Installation step 3 specifies positioning the microphone so the mouth is not too far from the mic. At helmet interior distances above approximately 3–4cm, the noise cancellation algorithm receives a lower speech signal relative to ambient noise — the signal-to-noise ratio falls and the transmission quality degrades even with active cancellation. Chin-bar microphones should be positioned as close to the rider's mouth as the chin guard geometry allows without contact.
Installation Guide
1

Attach the speaker Velcro pads to the reserved ear grooves on the left and right sides of the helmet interior.

2

Attach Velcro to the HERO host unit and route the speaker wiring cleanly through the helmet lining, avoiding the visor gasket and chin bar hinge areas.

3

Attach the microphone to the chin guard — position it as close to the mouth as the chin bar geometry allows. Microphone distance greater than 3–4cm from the mouth degrades noise cancellation effectiveness.

4

Select the mounting position on the left side of the helmet and insert the buckle clip into the helmet shell — the left-side position keeps the control buttons accessible to the left hand without releasing the throttle.

5

Press the host unit downward into the clip to lock it in place, then connect the headset jack.

6

With the unit secured, adjust the microphone boom or flat mic to its final position. Test button access with your riding gloves on before the first ride.

Confirm the charging port cover is fully seated after installation. The IP67 rating applies only to the closed housing — an open or partially seated port cover reduces water ingress protection.

Unit Detail
01
ABS Housing Durability
The ABS outer housing carries the IP67 rating — the seal is between the housing halves and around any port covers. If the unit is dropped on hard ground, inspect the housing seam for cracking; a cracked seam breaks the IP67 seal even if the internal electronics are undamaged. Drops do not void the waterproof rating as long as the housing remains structurally intact and all port covers are closed.
02
Speaker Fit in Ear Cavities
The speakers must sit flush in the helmet's ear recesses — a speaker that protrudes into the ear canal creates localised pressure during extended wearing that causes discomfort and can compress the ear canal, reducing hearing sensitivity. Measure the ear cavity depth in your helmet before installation; helmets with shallow recesses (less than 8mm) may require thinner aftermarket speakers.
03
Charging Port Cover Seal
The IP67 rating requires the charging port cover to be fully pressed into its recess and seated against its rubber gasket. A cover that is partially closed or whose gasket has hardened will allow water ingress at that point, rendering the IP rating void for that exposure. Inspect the gasket at the start of each riding season and replace if it has hardened, deformed, or separated from the cover.
04
Button Access with Gloves
The left-side mounting position is designed for left-hand button access — riders keep their right hand on the throttle and use the left to operate the HERO. Familiarise yourself with the button layout and press sequences for volume, intercom channel, and call handling before the first ride. At highway speed, a rider who must look at the unit to identify a button is distracted longer than one who has memorised the layout.
05
Pairing and Re-Pairing
Bluetooth 5.1 stores up to eight paired device profiles. If the unit fails to reconnect automatically after a phone restart or OS update, manually initiate pairing from the phone's Bluetooth settings rather than holding the pairing button on the HERO — a manual phone-side pair request is faster than a full factory re-pair and does not clear other stored devices from memory.
06
Battery Storage Between Seasons
The ternary lithium cell should be stored at approximately 50% charge for off-season periods longer than 4–6 weeks. Storing fully charged accelerates electrolyte oxidation; storing fully depleted risks dropping below the protection threshold (typically 2.5V per cell), causing permanent capacity loss. Charge to 50% before storage and check monthly, topping back to 50% if self-discharge has reduced it below 30%.

  • Close the charging port before any wet riding: IP67 protects the closed housing — not an open or partially seated port cover. Press the cover fully into its recess until it is flush with the housing surface. After wet riding, dry the port area before opening the cover to charge; water trapped in the port recess can enter the charge contacts even after the housing exterior has dried.
  • Position the microphone within 3–4cm of the mouth: Noise cancellation effectiveness depends on the speech-to-noise ratio at the microphone. Beyond 3–4cm, wind and engine noise dominate the signal before the DSP can separate it. For full-face helmets, the flat chin-bar mic typically sits at the correct distance if placed at the highest point of the chin guard the geometry allows.
  • Use 5V / 2A for the rated charge time — not higher voltage: The 1100mAh cell charges from flat in approximately 1.5–2 hours at 5V / 2A (10W). Fast chargers at 9V or 12V without voltage negotiation can damage the battery management circuit. Use a standard 5V USB adapter or a USB-C PD adapter that negotiates down to 5V before connecting.
  • Test all buttons with your riding gloves before the first ride: Left-side mounting puts the control buttons in the left-hand reach zone, but glove thickness changes which button edges are tactilely distinguishable. Confirm you can operate volume, intercom, and call functions by feel alone before departing — identifying functions at speed requires no visual attention to the unit.
