- Sony sensor vs generic CMOS — what the difference means for footage: Sony IMX sensors (the standard referenced in "Sony sensor" dashcam claims) have better low-light sensitivity and dynamic range than equivalent-resolution generic CMOS sensors — producing usable night footage at lower light levels and retaining detail in high-contrast scenes (bright sky, dark road). 1080P Sony does not mean 4K; resolution is still 1920×1080. Confirm the specific Sony sensor model number with the seller if low-light night performance is a primary concern — "Sony sensor" covers a wide performance range depending on which IMX part is used.
- IP66 waterproofing — what it covers and where it does not apply: IP66 means fully dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets from any direction. It does not mean submersion-rated (that requires IP67 or IP68). For a motorcycle dashcam, IP66 is adequate for rain, road spray, and pressure washing at distance. Confirm whether IP66 applies to the camera heads, the display unit, and all cable connectors — individual components of a dashcam system are sometimes rated separately, and the lowest-rated component determines the system's effective waterproof level.
- Super capacitor vs lithium battery — why it matters for motorcycles: Most dashcams use lithium-ion batteries that degrade rapidly when repeatedly charged in the heat of a parked motorcycle (engine bay temperatures can reach 60–80°C in summer). Super capacitors store much less energy but tolerate a far wider temperature range (−40°C to +85°C typically) and have a cycle life 10–100× longer than lithium cells. The trade-off is that super capacitors provide only a few seconds of power after the ignition is cut — enough to save the last recording file, but not for extended parking surveillance. This is the correct power architecture for a dashcam hardwired to the motorcycle's ignition circuit.
- G-sensor sensitivity — set it correctly before riding: The G-sensor detects sudden deceleration or impact and locks the current recording file from being overwritten by loop recording. If sensitivity is set too high, normal road vibration and bumps will constantly trigger emergency saves, eventually filling the card with locked files that cannot be deleted by loop recording — the card will appear full and recording will stop. Set G-sensor sensitivity to medium or low for motorcycle use and test on a typical ride before committing to a setting. Most dashcam apps or on-screen menus allow sensitivity adjustment in 3–5 steps.
- MicroSD card not included — card class and speed matter: The dashcam supports up to 128GB MicroSD but the card is not supplied. For dashcam use, choose a card rated for continuous write performance — Class 10 / U3 / V30 minimum. Standard phone or camera cards (U1/V10) are not designed for the constant write cycles of loop recording and will fail prematurely. Use a card specifically marketed for dashcam or security camera use (e.g. endurance-rated cards). Format the card in the dashcam after first insertion, not in a computer, and reformat every 2–3 months to prevent file system fragmentation from slowing writes.
